We are often asked what we think the next big thing in lighting technology will be, and without hesitation we say ‘Location Awareness’.  The EINSTONE technology from OSRAM provides for this and takes it to another level.  Opening up new opportunities for indoor navigation, find my car, asset tracking and mobile customer loyalty programs.

OSRAM EINSTONE technology allows for indoor location awareness by turning the lighting installation into smart infrastructure, which notifies a device about its exact location. You can read a lot more about EINSTONE technology here, however keeping it simple the EINSTONE Smart Infrastructure combines the lighting installation with permanently-powered beacons and turns it into a positioning system providing homogeneous coverage of the area.  This takes away the problems of typical GPS signal being too vague and forms the basis for a variety of indoor location-based services.

As an OEM partner with OSRAM, Enigma Lighting fittings will be able to incorporate this technology and we can see great benefits for our clients in utilising this technology in the future.

Alongside our Partners at Dark we are proud to be sponsoring this years Restaurant and Bar Design Awards.

Now in their 9th year, the Awards are a globally recognised competition dedicated to the design of food and beverage spaces.  This covers every imaginable space, from ships to airports, museums to burger vans and from revered Michelin -stared establishments to the fleeting dynamism of pop ups. The Awards ceremony will be held at London’s King’s Cross on the 5th October 2017.

We have added one of our latest project to our projects collection.  The newest addition to the fantastic Jigsaw portfolio is the St. James’s Emporium. Part of the major redevelopment of London’s Piccadilly, the store will anchor St James’s Market and it’s set to be the British fashion brand’s most luxurious statement to date.

The store has been given the premium treatment in tune with its iconic surroundings. Working alongside designers Dalziel and Pow we created a lighting scheme which provided the required levels of drama and mood whilst highlighting the products on display.

Take a look at the project and the Enigma products used.

It has been a great project to be part of and we are pleased to be able to show you all.

We are delighted that our Enigma Tubular fitting is a finalist in the Mixology North Awards.

Being held next month and billed as one of the most anticipated events of the year the awards have been created for the dynamic and innovative interior design community. Judged by an independent panel of experienced architects, designers and consultants they seek to award the ground breakers and boundary pushers of the commercial interiors sector.

We will keep our fingers crossed and look forward to the party!

Enigma Light and Build

This event is huge.

Of course I know this, but the 2 year gap between each event erases this memory a little.

The only way we could even attempt to cover the ground we wanted was to adopt the Germanic way- enter the hall, turn left, go straight and efficiently weave through the stands. As a designer this is hard, we don’t like sticking to the rules, especially not with so many things to look at, but I don’t think we could have covered what we wanted without it.

All about the X’s

The highlights for me were definitely the Xicato and XAL stands.

Xicato for their great presentation and their new XIM modules. Monitoring of chip performance is a great tool for any OEM or user and testament to Xicato’s confidence in their products. Sign me up for Xicato man action figure!

The XAL stand really stood out for their magnetic track and the new Bo track spot luminaires.

Also they’ve been listening to users in relation to install problems and coordination with ceilings, reflected in their snap on and snap together Task luminaires  and their work with ceiling manufacturer Armstrong, to develop the Leno S and T luminaire which can be installed in a zero plenum ceiling recess behind any Armstrong ceiling.

Hess‘ intelligent luminaire columns in the City Elements range were really interesting and they l had the best entertainment to explain it all (plus it was in a small, dark, miniature cinema room, which was great post the DARK party) in the form of their 3D film cinema room with branded popcorn (of course).

Dark Bricks

Our partners at DARK and Brick in the Wall had some great new pieces too. Glowing loo roll holders – we didn’t realise we needed one until we saw them – and seamless beautiful light from the Brick In The Wall team; their new mini Atmos luminaire was great. Plasterers of England should visit this stand!! We need plaster finishes like that in the UK!

Our colleague Graham Carr locked-up in the Brick in the Wall stand until he could recite all the new product codes.

The Fluffy stuff

This year it was provided by the amazing installations on the Sumitomo Chemical Co Ltd stand and at the BeStill #MeetDimple stand – both very welcome “pause for thought” zones with their kinetic light sculptures and relaxing music – just the tonic to ease those “spots before your eyes”, before heading to the Chinese halls.

The Chinese Halls

WOW.

A “small” collection of the thousands of factory’s China producing luminaires for all us westerners. Some are good, some not so -you have to experience this space for yourself, but here’s one of my favourite company names to give you a flavour.

Our Partners at Dark and Brick in the Wall have also been busy and have some great new additions to their collections.

Dark highlights include the Ronda range, the Angle Beam and of course the illuminated toilet roll holder that you never knew you needed….until now.

Keeping with their stylish plaster in product range Brick in the Wall have added some new designs, such as the Ozon and Star, but have also improved their existing downlight range with a number of technical attachments. The provision of honeycombs,  low glare snoots and spherical glass lenses allow more flexibility for these great products.
