Enigma Lighting are proud to have recently contributed to this exciting project based out in Abu Dhabi, a one-of-a-kind job in which we played an integral part of their new lighting renovations.
Nestled within the tranquil setting of the St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort in Abu Dhabi, Sontaya has long enchanted guests with its distinctive Southeast Asian allure. But as the hospitality landscape continues to evolve, even iconic destinations must adapt. Tasked with preserving the essence of Sontaya while enhancing its guest experience, we were entrusted with a thoughtful challenge: to enrich the ambience without losing the venue’s enduring appeal, working with the lighting design team at Creation.

The brief was both clear and ambitious, completely overhaul the lighting scheme, control systems, and wiring accessories across both the front-of-house and kitchen spaces. All of this had to be achieved within a tightly managed three-month window, requiring meticulous coordination and adaptability. More than a technical update, the aim was to create an immersive lighting environment that could seamlessly transition with the natural rhythms of the day, enriching the atmosphere and elevating each moment of the guest journey.
Behind the scenes, technology works quietly but purposefully. Tactile keypads allow staff to effortlessly switch between five pre-set lighting scenes, enabling smooth transitions in ambience throughout the day. Outside, the newly enhanced water feature comes alive at night, bathed in the vibrant glow of OneEightyOne’s neon flex lighting. This striking visual is timed to perfection by a discreet control system, automatically illuminating the space from dusk through to the early morning hours, creating a dreamlike atmosphere that lingers long after sunset.

Designed with future adaptability in mind, the lighting control system supports firmware updates and customisable scenes, allowing Sontaya to evolve with changing needs while staying true to its original character. Today, guests entering the restaurant are welcomed into a space where lighting plays the role of a silent storyteller, shaping mood, elevating experiences, and adding a touch of magic to every meal. For Creation, this project represents more than just a technical milestone; it stands as a testament to craftsmanship, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
